RuB Inc. RSM goes Green
The small fleet of field sales vehicles at RuB Inc. in America have
changed course. With petrol prices trending up, and greenhouse gasses
going the same, we decided to go green.
We now have two Regional Sales Managers (RSM) driving Hybrid Gas-Electric cars in America.
In a country where a 5L Mustang convertible is considered a small
car, our employees are spending hundreds of days on the highway
surrounded by large trucks & cars. For a road warrior who’s car is
his office—this downsizing to smaller vehicles was an issue to be
addressed. Toyota Motor company helped us overcome this objection,
because they made this Hybrid bigger. With the rear seatbacks down,
Prius
v offers 67.3 cubic feet of cargo space. With customers buckled in, there's 34.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats.
It appears that the subtle styling changes in the hatch have added
remarkable space in the vehicle. The 5 doors provide lots of room in the
back for catalogs, customer files, and samples of all sorts.
The surprise of the day was the need for IT support at the car
dealership. Two different electronic technicians had to support our
launch into the field. Our smart phones automatically synch to our
computers, and we wanted the car to sync to RuB Inc. No problem for
iPhones or the DROID that most of our sales people have. Bruce Sandler-
NorthEast RSM quickly got his
Bluetooth® wireless working. He quickly made voice activated calls to customers that
the car
pulled right out of our CRM database! It’s a bit surprising that the
automobile industry is aggressively marketing this connectivity in your
dash board. It is against the law to drive holding a phone, but we can
surf the web, purchase concert tickets, while driving? Of course our
employees would never do something like this.
The vehicle controls work by voice recognition and we were told that
the system learns quickly. This is good fortune because some humans
cannot disceren that Tom (Tennesee) and Bruce (Boston) speak the same
language.
I wonder if the GPS would work if they switched cars in the future?
Our guys in the field got big care storage, with small car economy.
The electric motor is driven by a battery under the back seat. This is re-charged by breaking. The Hybrid Synergy Drive
®, and electronics allow Prius
v
a smooth transition from electric to gas moors. Exceptional fuel
efficiency, and low smog-forming emissions can be monitored. Energy
monitor gives you real time feedback about how efficient you are
driving.
Those aggressive drivers are reminded that there is a cost—at the pump for your road-raging driving style.
From initial acceleration to low speeds, Prius
v is designed
not to use fuel, because under certain conditions it’s powered solely
by the high-torque electric motor. During heavy acceleration, the
gasoline engine is used while the battery supplies increased drive power
to the electric motor.
Tom Scholato reported that his drive home was measured at 46 mpg.
This fuel economy is 105% improvement over his old SUV. We reduce costs
for the company and take care of the environment too—WIN-WIN.
